Case Study: Powering a Commercial Plaza Offline

A 14-unit commercial plaza was spending heavily on diesel to keep shops trading through grid outages. The brief: cut fuel to near zero without disrupting tenants.

The design

  • A roof-wide monocrystalline array sized to daytime load plus charging
  • A shared LiFePO4 storage room with parallel banks
  • Hybrid inverters that blend solar, storage and grid seamlessly
  • Per-unit metering so each tenant sees their own usage
By the second month the standby generator was running only for scheduled tests.

The result

Diesel spend fell sharply, tenants got clean uninterrupted power, and the landlord gained a monitoring dashboard that flags any unit drawing more than expected.

Frequently asked questions

Can a commercial plaza run on solar instead of a generator?+

Yes. We took a 14-unit plaza off its diesel generator using a roof-wide monocrystalline array sized to daytime load plus charging, a shared LiFePO4 storage room, and hybrid inverters that blend solar, storage and grid. By month two the generator was only used for scheduled tests.

How do tenants pay for power in a shared solar system?+

Per-unit metering tracks each tenant's consumption separately, so usage can be billed fairly. The landlord also gets a monitoring dashboard that flags any unit drawing more than expected.
